Bunun nedeni, unutulan veya gözetimsiz bırakılan hesapların genellikle ele geçirilmiş, iki faktörlü kimlik doğrulaması kurulmamış eski veya yeniden kullanılmış şifrelere bağlı olması ve kullanıcı tarafından daha az güvenlik kontrolü almasıdır.”
Google, bu hesapların ele geçirilebilir ve spam veya diğer kötü amaçlı içeriklerin yanı sıra kimlik hırsızlığı için de kullanılabileceğini belirtiyor.

Google’dan Ruth Kricheli, bu ayın başlarında da bu değişikliğin kullanıcıların spam, kimlik avı dolandırıcılığı ve hesap ele geçirme gibi güvenlik tehditlerinden korunması için gerekli olduğunu söyledi:
“Bu hesaplar genellikle savunmasız ve bir hesap ele geçirildiğinde, kimlik hırsızlığından istenmeyen ve hatta spam gibi kötü niyetli içeriğe kadar her türlü amaçla kullanılabilir.”
Ancak Kricheli güncellenen politikadan yalnızca kişisel hesapların etkileneceğini ve okul veya iş hesapları için bu durumun geçerli olmayacağını da belirtti. Kullanıcılar eski hesaplara erişimlerini kaybetmemek için kendilerini korumak istiyorlarsa, e-posta gönderebilir veya gelen bir e-postaya bakabilir, Google arama aracını kullanabilir veya bağlı hesaplarından YouTube videolarını izleyebilir.
